Jiggy

Jiggy was founded in Terrassa (Barcelona) in 2003 when Sarah (vocals) decided to create a band to share her love of music. Damian joined this project as a guitarist and together they started writing their own songs, which already had an innovative style based on pop-rock with R&B influences. Later on, in April 2004, Nuria joined the band to give a more melodic sound with her keyboard. She also provided background vocals which, together with Sarah’s, would build the harmonies that nowadays characterize Jiggy.

Once they had written some songs, they decided to search for musicians to be able to perform live. It would give them more experience in music and it would enable them to show their art to their future audience base. Subsequently, Peter (guitarist) and Delf (bassist) joined the band as musicians, who not only provided Jiggy with their experience, but also with a bluesy sound. In 2005, they left the band and, to cover their position, Lucas (bassist) and Juanjo (drummer) joined the band in early 2006. Together with Sarah, Nuria and Damian, they would draw the band style and they would grow professionally, winning two second prizes at the demo contests Rubifest (Rubi) and TheMusicDirectory (UK). During this time Jiggy also took part in the international competition Emergenza (2006 – 2007), where the band was one of the national semifinalists.

In summer 2007 the band was subject to line-up changes: Lucas had to quit in summer 2007 due to disagreements with the rest of the band; in Jan 2008 Juanjo left by mutual agreement; and later on the co-founder of the band, Damian, left due to personal issues. It is then in April 2008 when Sarah and Nuria start searching for new band members: Toni (guitar), Arnau (bass) and Joseba (drums) are heading this new season. Few weeks after joining the band, Jiggy was semifinalist of local contest VicSona 2008 (Vic), being one of the best live performances of the competition.

Jiggy has performed live both in acoustic and electric sets in different places, such as Terrassa, Rubi, Barcelona, Madrid and Tarragona (including Youth Festivals and the Theme Park Port Aventura), and it has had good reviews from the organisation and a notable response from the audience. Jiggy has appeared in the local media, which has always given a positive view about the band. It is also important to highlight the recent two second prizes that Jiggy has won at two different competitions: Rubifest (Barcelona) and TheMusicDirectory (UK).

Jiggy has a wide range of influences: R&B and black music in general, (Destiny’s Child, NERD, Boyz II men, Aretha Franklin), nu-metal (Linkin Park, Evanescence), metal and progressive rock (Metallica, Meshuggah, Porcupine Tree, Kyuss, Dream Theater), 80’s rock (Queen, U2), and Spanish and international pop-rock (Hanson, Kelly Clarkson, No Doubt, Amaral).
Although the band writes most of its songs in English, Jiggy has also tried to translate that talent by writing songs in other languages such as Russian. At present, the band is translating the songs into Spanish in order to be introduced in the national market.
